Swimsuit season is so close you can almost smell the chlorine. Our members have been busting their humps over the last 2 months getting ready to unveil their new “swimsuit-ready” bodies at the pool this summer. We’ve had so many members who have made exercising a daily habit that Gillespie is going to start looking like Muscle Beach in Venice, CA.
However, even the best exercise program in the world (no matter what those late night infomercials tell you) won’t give you the body you want without a little healthy eating in your daily routine. Unfortunately, you can’t out train a bad diet no matter how hard you exercise. One glance at our members who have made the biggest transformations reinforces the importance of healthy eating. Every single one of them exercised AND ate healthy.
It’s painful to see someone work so hard in the gym and then throw it all away as soon as they sit down at the dinner table. Unfortunately, we’ve done a poor job offering a solution to the nutritional side of the equation. Why? We couldn’t find a good fit. If it wasn’t better than Weight Watchers or any of the other meal programs available, we didn’t want it. Over the last 2 months, we’ve been taste testing a new company, and we think we’ve found a winner.
The company meets and/or exceeds all of our criteria:
- Healthy: low calories, low fat, low carbs
- Inexpensive: meals for as little as $6
- Convenient: Easily cooked in 10 minutes or less and can be taken to work
- Variety: More than just a few options so we won’t get bored, as well as a few options that may lead us to a few new favorites that we wouldn’t normally try
- Tasty: Something that didn’t taste like cardboard or cat food
We’ll now be carrying meals from the Low Cal Café of Edwardsville at Ageless. Their healthy, hand-prepared meals are offered in convenient microwavable containers. Every Monday morning, the owner visits the farmer’s market in St. Louis to purchase the freshest, highest quality ingredients for the week. Each week they feature 5 new meals. Meals are good for 5-7 days in the refrigerator, or they can be frozen. Meals can be purchased individually for $7 in our store, or members can preorder 5, 10, 15, or 21 meals by Saturday and have them delivered to the gym all at once on Tuesdays. You’ll be able to order the meals at the front desk, or order them from our website. We’ll stock the most popular meals in our refrigerator in the store in case you’d ever want to pick one up after a tough workout.
This week’s sample menu is:
Marinara Veggie Burger: calories- 380 fat- 6 carbs- 30
Lime Chilli Rub Chicken: calories- 480 fat- 7 carbs- 42
Poppyseed mandarin orange chicken salad: calories- 405 fat- 8 carbs- 25

- Curcumin – an herbal anti-inflammatory
- High dose EPA/DHA – omega 3 fatty acids

Essentially, we’re turning our store into a farmer’s market. We’re trying to take a more holistic approach to health, and offer solutions that go beyond just exercise. If you’re looking for answer to your diet dilemma, give the meals a try. You’ll be shocked at how big of a difference healthy eating makes you look and feel!
Side note: This isn’t a competition with our local restaurants. We love them. We routinely eat at CP’s Five and Dine, Tony’s, Papa Jo’s, etc. There are some weeks that if it wasn’t for them, we’d starve. Cheat meals are good thing not just psychology, but also physiologically (do a search on Leptin to find out why). This is a healthy alternative to the microwavable meals and “healthy” frozen meals that are loaded with preservatives, sodium, etc.
