There is no specific formula for success. There isn’t just one way to do what you want to do in life. There are those of us that challenge ourselves often and those who sit back and wait to be challenged.
Some of us visualize what we want, pay the price, and go get it. Some of us visualize what we want and let our belief that we can’t have it run the show.
I believe every person could benefit from doing challenging workouts that push us to our physical limits and beyond. Honestly, when we aren’t living on the edge we are really just existing not living.
I don’t care if you are a little kid or if you are in a wheel chair in the nursing home, if you can move even one part of your body then you can exercise. You can push yourself, and you can grow as a person.
So many people sit at home unwilling to give up what they are for what they could be. I believe that there is a stronger side to all of us just lying and waiting for us to let it out, and strenuous, challenging exercise is the best way I know to turn it loose. This is where the term “beast mode” comes from. It’s the animal within.
How to Unlock Your Potential with Exercise
1) Do the right types of workouts.
Strength training workouts do just that. They challenge your strength. You can either lift the bar or you can’t. These types of workouts are necessary and should be included in everyone’s training routine. Being weak just should not be an option in your life…ever!
Crossfit workouts are my ace-in-the-hole for physically challenging yourself. They are difficult and vary greatly from one to the next. These workouts, if done with proper technique, will challenge you in a way that you have probably not felt before. In the past I have done serious distance running and Crossfit workouts.
The challenge of a Crossfit workout is much different than running. In running you have one goal, to run fast. In Crossfit you have many goals. You have to be able to run, jump, lift, swing, climb, throw, and any other form of movement that I may have forgotten. See a list of Crossfit workouts here, and use them to increase your training intensity and to truly challenge your physical limits.
2) Develop mental strength by pushing past the point when you want to quit.
Mental strength is built by pushing ahead when you think you can’t. The more mental toughness you have the more confidence you have that you can overcome other challenges in life. By challenging yourself in your workouts you prepare yourself to rise to the challenges of life. They will be great, there will be many, and they will beat you down if you aren’t ready.
3) Constantly challenge yourself.
Make your workouts a game in which you are constantly competing with yourself. Keep track of your weights, reps, and times. Like the Spartans in the movie “300″ to be the best we can be in life we need to be constantly tested and constantly be testing ourselves. Every day, every workout is a test. We can either rise to the challenge and get better, or we can shrink from it and stay where we are. This is exactly why challenging workouts fuel personal growth. They allow us to practice rising to seemingly impossible challenges on a regular basis.
”Be thankful for those who tell us no. For they are the ones the caused us to do it ourselves.”
